The concert was full of the usual high quality acts: -
- a little kids play, written, directed and performed by 5 - 8 year olds (with the addition of Louisa as Santa Claus),
- a big kids play which this time was an unscripted interview show (Peet was the interviewer and did a remarkable job - I assume it was a hip sort of show since Peet was reclining on a bean bag the whole time),
- some singing that the children practised for at least 4 days,
- violin playing by Katherine and Sophia which was accompanied by Madison doing ballet (to her family's surprise since she doesn't take ballet lessons),
- a cute Harry Potter puppet show that the big kids copied from youtube,
- some dancing and singing,
- Anastassia played the piano - also without having taken lessons,
- and Philip channelled Lee Kernagan as usual.
The grown ups play was a remake of Little Red Riding Hood - Jesse was a loud American tourist.
The kids were presented with their quilts and certificates then Patty & Caryl were presented with their quilts and said their goodbyes. Louisa was a wreck of course, but Patty and Caryl asked if they could come out for afternoon tea in January, which didn't stop the tears but did help.
Peet was gorgeous - he has a beauty of a shiner on his eye - the result of treading on a broom and having the handle hit him in the face slapstick style. He was so happy with the night and hugged Patty & Caryl goodbye. He is totally ready to move on to High School - there will of course be tears and adjustments to come - but the time is right.
Max had a cry at home when it hit him that Peet wouldn't be at Pine next year. He was in Louisa's bed (with me - that made three in a single bed) and crying and miserable - I tried to reassure him that changes happen all the time and was about to say how good changes can be when he interrupted to say 'I know and I don't like any of them' - which is true since he still complaining about the house being painted after Christmas last year!
