I beg your pardon.

Max tells me that the last post (with Tom and Kathleen) was way too corny - my apologies.

Oh yes, she has parents too.

They are about as much in love with her as each other!

A name

Roger has Grandpa - easy - his Dad was Grandpa and there has never been any other possibility.

I am stumped.  Here's my list of possibilities so far:
  • Grandma - obvious
  • Kim - traditional for us
  • Nani - one of my grandmother's adapted name
  • Grandmama - the name my grandmother started with
  • Molly - my great grandmother's name of choice
  • Nanel -  my great great grandmother's name of choice
  • Lovey - I wanted this one but have been unanimously outvoted

But I'm still not sure  - maybe Savannah will come up with something. The trials of grandmother-hood!

Aunties and Uncles

Louisa cried when we gave her the news that Savannah was born.  And now - even with new and painful orthodontic work - she just wants to hold that baby.

Jesse posted this divine picture of herself - holding Savannah - on facebook within minutes of passing Savannah to Alec.  As she said - it's enough to make you want to go to YSA activities! (Almost.)

Alec - also mad for this little girl.

Peet - in hardly any photos because he is the family photographer - but incredibly persistent about asking for a hold.

Uncle Bear

Max is in love - he told me that he just walks around smiling because he can't stop thinking about Savannah - and as we left the hospital on the night she was born he clung to me, slowed down and stopped to say 'very special'.  Then started to cry.  It really is overwhelmingly lovely.

Savannah Anne Fulcher

You know how when something truly wonderful happens - and every other thought - waking or sleeping - is made hazy because there is a shimmering layer of goodness and love covering and surrounding it?  That's how we're operating around here.

Savannah is our 'truly wonderful'.  She occupies a layer in all our thoughts and makes each day brighter.

All arms and legs, the sweetest little dark blue eyes, dark hair and a cute little tongue that she likes to play with, and ... she's placid and calm!  But if babies pick up energy from their mothers then placid and calm was really the only way for Savannah to go.  Kathleen might just as well be on her third baby - so relaxed, so happy and so 'mother-y'.  Thomas is insanely and appropriately proud.

And now for the details: seven hour labour (with a half hour 2nd stage in case you really like details) - all natural delivery - born at 1.53 pm on Saturday 4 February - about 10 days before her due date - 6lb 3oz, 48 cms long - dark hair - perfect.

The nursing staff told Kathleen that she was born to have babies and should have lots - who are we to disagree!  And that Thomas was the best support person they had ever seen.  I confess I was a bit surprised - and perhaps a bit more proud than is becoming.

Now she is home - growing every day - spreading delight even in her sleep (which happens more during the day than at night - sorry about those genes Kathleen) - and being read to everyday.
