Stake Conference

Last night Roger and I both spoke at the Saturday night session. Our topic was 'Endurance - with a positive twist'. We both got through our ten minutes - Roger talked about the need to finish the race etc using marathon runners and Paul's epistle to the Hebrews 'run well the race'. I tried to talk about enduring in our gratitude and in doing the things we do as part of an LDS lifestyle. Both went reasonable well. Roger's talk of course was a few notes and mine of course was typed up word for word - a good indication of which of us is calmer about speaking in Stake Conference.

President Poole spoke on having sacred moments, which was a good concept and interesting to think about. President Maurer spoke on the importance of marriage. Sister Davy who is one of the assistant matrons at the temple spoke and made an interesting analogy between the Virtuous Woman scripture in Proverbs and the covenants we make in the temple.

We think the Stake Presidency asked us to speak because our ward was moved into Brisbane North Stake on Sunday. Additionally a Kenmore Ward was created, a Centenary Stake was created and apparently some other wards were created too.

Alec was sustained as an Elder and ordained, as were Daniel, Tim and Michael Sylvester. It was especially gorgeous because there were 4 from our ward who all had to be ordained that day due to the stake changes. Alec was ordained first, then he assisted for Daniel, then they both assisted for Tim. It was just a beautiful thing to see and hear. Michael was ordained by Malcolm Rea and had a group of men from the ward there to assist, which was really nice and a good indication that he is forming good relationships within the ward.

Louisa wore her dress bought on FFFN.
