D&C 121:41 - 43

The basic text for the parenting class I teach is:

"No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;
By kindness
, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile—

Reproving betimes with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of lovetoward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy."

The discussion was about how parents act with persuausion, long-suffering etc - and the things we do that are not these things. Threats, time outs and so on not meeting these criteria.

There is even a quote from Michalene Grassli's talk that I love. It's the one where she says that Christ said 'come unto me' never 'go to your room'.

Lots of great material - 6 pages in fact - we got through two!

Lessons like these are so good for reminding oneself of the things to do with children. Reminders this time included - making sure that each child is treated as an individual, modelling the love that Heavenly Father has for each child, and keeping principles of agency in mind always.

Today was also the seminary class sacrament meeting presentation. Jesse spoke very well - as always - and looked composed, self assured and intelligent - as always.
