Some things just don't change.

When Roger and I were dating Matthew had a galah who sat on his bike handle bars while he rode down the street. The galah only ever learnt two phrases - 'Hello Roger' and 'Maaathheew'. 'Hello Roger' because every time he'd visit everyone in the family said hello, and 'Maaathheew' because Matt was always in trouble with someone for something.

So today Matt had his eye removed - a melanoma grew over the optical nerve - basically it's sun damage. Maathheew!

Jake broke out in a rash, Flossy had a lymph node swell painfully, and Joan had such a sore eye that she had to leave Toowoomba and see a doctor in Brisbane. All three turned out to be stress reactions. Maathheew!

His op was at 9 am this morning. The anesthesiologist specifically told Matt that he should rest all evening and that if he felt like going for a walk down the street - he shouldn't. But when he called me at 4 in the afternoon to see about the boys he was shopping in the Queen Street Mall. One more time - Maathheew!

Right now there is a bit of coral where his eye should be - the muscle is attached to that and in 6 weeks time it will be replaced with a false eye which will be attached to the muscle and have some ability to track. Which is pretty amazing.
