Samuel and Robert came back to Sunshine with Louisa and I after we dropped Jesse to the airport for her Europe trip. That night - quite late - Max came in to our room - all glistening eyes and quivering chin - to tell me that Samuel was missing his Mother. I asked if I could help but Max said 'no, I just thought you should know, I'm going to get Peter and the Wolf to read to him.'
It worked - they were both fast asleep in a few minutes.
Which is nice - because it means that all those hours of reading when kids felt sad or worried - or happy for that matter - have planted a love of reading.
